How To Choose the Perfect Wedding Gift

Written by ClickHowTo Team

Wedding gift etiquette can be quite difficult to follow, especially since it isn’t as simple as just purchasing a kitchen appliance anymore. Nowadays, people register for the kinds of gifts they want – but it can still be a difficult task if you don’t know the couple very well! That’s why we thought we’d tell you exactly how to choose the perfect wedding gift:

Have a Look at Their Registry

A lot of couples will choose to register at their favourite stores, or use a universal gift registry where they can list a multitude of gifts they’d like to receive on their big day. Choosing a gift straight off the universal gift registry is a safe bet, as you know the couple has taken time to think about why they’d want/need this gift. If the couple is just moving in together after the wedding, couples could want things for their kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and even items to decorate their new home together. If you decide to buy the gift directly from where the couple is registered (recommended), make sure you follow the store’s procedure so that gift will then be marked off the list and nobody else will buy the same gift.

What are The Couple Like?

If the couple don’t have a gift registry or you decide not to go with the list, you’ll need to think about what the couple are like. What do they enjoy doing together? It’s important that you buy them something they will both really enjoy. You could buy them a trip somewhere, or tickets to a concert that they’ll both like. You can always ask very close friends and family for recommendations if you get stuck!

Sharing Expenses

Some gifts on a registry might be too expensive for one person to purchase alone. In this case, you could share the expense with a few other people to make sure that you really do buy the couple, the ‘perfect’ gift. You’ll all be helping each other out by sharing the expense, and it’ll be a nice gift as the couple probably wouldn’t have been able to afford it by themselves.

What if The Couple Have Requested No Gifts?

Sometimes a couple will request no gifts at their wedding, for their own reasons. This could be due to anything, from a second marriage to the expense. In this case, you could do many things; donate money to a charity they like, create a scrapbook with memories of them for them to treasure, or offer a skill of yours to them should they need it.

Failsafe Gifts

If you don’t know the couple very well, there are a few failsafe gifts that you can buy. Why not buy them a personalised picture frame like those from Irish Crystal Co? You could even just buy them a gift basket filled with nice food and drink!

Choosing the perfect wedding gift can be a tricky task, but with the tips above you can’t go wrong. Remember to always include the gift receipt though – just in case!
