How to Pack for a Holiday Abroad

Written by ClickHowTo Team

What has happened to the good old British holiday at the seaside? It seems that everyone now is in such a rush to jet off to the sun, when there is time available. Who can blame them? Holidays that were one reserved for the rich and famous are now available to the masses thanks to modern technology and the birth of budget airlines. It is accepted that, by using a budget airline, people may not be traveling in style but that doesn’t put deter people. The desire to get a suntan on a foreign beach somewhere is what drives many people on during the dreary working week. Even when skin cancer levels are at their highest ever, it is all worth the risk.

So, what is it that attracts so many of us abroad? You would think it was the desire to learn about other cultures and to learn about ancient history. No, mostly it is sun, sand, sex, and sangria. hey, you only live once so make the most of it. All inclusive holidays often cause tourists to never leave the confines of the complex in which they are staying. There is alcohol, food, sun, and a swimming pool, all for free. What more could they ask for? Maybe I am painting us in a bad light. There are plenty of tourists who do go abroad to seek out cultures and history. Even on all-inclusive holidays there are plenty of excursions to see the sights, if we take advantage of them.

If you are about to go on your first holiday to a warmer country, have you considered what to pack yet? let’s take a look at what you are likely to need when you are away.

  • Suntan lotion. If you are heading for the sun it makes sense to protect yourself against it. The last thing you need is to end up visiting a hospital and spoiling your holiday.

  • Clothing. Staring at the top, you are going to need a sun hat, T-shirts and shorts for the hot days. For the evenings, pack smart-casual clothing. Even though you are heading to a warmer climate the nights can be very cold so pack a medium weight coat too. For shoes you are likely to need flip-flops or sandals in the daytime and comfy shoes for boogying the night away.

  • First aid. Taking your own travel first aid kit makes sense so that you are prepared should any minor injuries or insect bites befall you.

  • Toiletries. remember to pack the toothpaste, toothbrush, flannel, soap, shampoo, shower gel, and anything else you can think of. A men’s toiletry bag is ideal for keeping all of the products in one place

  • Entertainment. A good book or electronic reading device will serve you well during the plane journey and on the beach. Relaxing can be boring when there is nothing to occupy the mind.

  • Medicines. It is common for people to pack their medication when going away. Always keep it in the original manufacturers packaging to avoid problems when going through customs. A copy of your prescription is handy for if you were to lose your meds.

Packing for your holiday needn’t be an arduous task. Just give yourself plenty of time, ideally a couple of days at least, to consider things you have forgot. Happy trails.
