For many families, a holiday home is an increasingly viable alternative to paying out money for hotels and villas whenever they go abroad to a specific destination. With the option of transferring international money quickly a holiday home means you can grab some last minute flights and get out there quickly without worrying about anything else at all.
If you are thinking of buying a holiday home abroad, it is important to make sure that you choose the right holiday home for your family’s needs. Here is a checklist for you to go through:
Is it family friendly?
If you are buying a holiday home for you and your family, then you obviously need to ensure that the property is actually family friendly! It will need to be a secure environment so that young children cannot easily disappear out of sight and out of your property, and you will also need to identify and address any potential hazards.
There is also the question of space within the property and outside it. What is the general layout of the property’s interior, and how big are the gardens? How well can you keep an eye on your kids from any part of the property or garden?
Does it have good transport links?
It is worth opting for a property with good transport links and infrastructure, and preferably not too far away from the local airport – after all, if you have just stepped off a long flight with a tired family, the last thing you want to do is spend ages driving or taking public transport to your holiday home!
Is the area safe?
One of the factors that influence a person’s decision to buy a holiday home is safety. You want to make sure that you and your family will be safe in your new holiday home, so this means making sure that you choose the right part of town to buy in.
Check out what the local neighbourhood is like by spending some time in the area, chatting with the locals, finding out what the local crime statistics are, and even researching online helps too.
What facilities are nearby?
A holiday home might look stunning and offer your family a relaxing holiday, but there is no point buying a holiday home if it is located somewhere with no immediate facilities nearby!
Like at home, you should be situated in a location where you are near to amenities such as supermarkets, restaurants, shopping centers, and medical centers.
And for the entertainment factor, it is worth finding out where the local attractions and points of interest are, such as beaches, theme parks, water parks, golf courses, adventure trails, museums and so on.
Do you need to learn the language?
Many tourist destinations abroad are full of people that have at least some grasp of the English language. But if you are going to a country on an annual basis for holidays, then it is going to be advantageous for you and your family to learn the local language.
This can be a fun activity for your family, and will also educate your kids at the same time! But aside from that, you will find it easier to communicate with the locals which can be very handy indeed.
