How to Prepare Your Garden for Summer 2014

Written by ClickHowTo Team

Are you excited for summer? Oh, what am I saying? Of course you are! Just about everybody is excitedly waiting for the sun to come out, and while we’re having short spells of it at the moment, there will hopefully be much more of it to come as the days go on. One of the best ways to make the most of the sunshine and glorious warmer weather is to put together a well designed garden. You can’t always head over to the beer garden or go for a picnic/to the park with friends, so having your very own beautiful garden to relax in in the summer can be wonderful. With that in mind, here’s how to prepare your garden for this summer’s antics:

De-clutter

The first step is always de-cluttering your garden. Get rid of all of the crap you have in your garden, whether it’s old kids toys, dog toys, or debris from work you did a few years back. Everybody is guilty of having a bit of mess in their garden, but getting it summer ready requires you to tidy it up. While you’re on this part, you should also de-weed, and make things look as neat as possible.

Plant Pretty Flowers

Who doesn’t love looking at pretty flowers while relaxing in the garden? Plant your most favourite flowers in the garden so that they’re in full bloom and looking lush come summer. You’ll love relaxing in a place surrounded by pretty colours and nice smells. Wooden planters are perfect for adding even more greenery to your garden.

Create a Relaxation Area

Where is the best place to relax with a good book or drink in your garden? This could be on a chair swing, a hammock, a big comfy chair, or a lounger.  Make it somewhere you can go to read your favourite book, enjoy a cold drink, or take a nap if you wish.

Make Sure it Can Be Social

You might want to invite your friends round come summer, so you need to make sure you have enough seating for everybody to sit down and enjoy a chat/drink/meal. This can be with a simple table and chair combo, or perhaps even comfy mixed and matched seating laid out as you would your own living room (waterproof seating of course).

Install a Barbecue

Summer is all about the barbecue! If you don’t already have a barbecue installed, you should invest – it’ll last for years to come, and you’ll get plenty of use out of it…even if you’re simply cooking burgers for the kids!

Include the Kids

If you have kids, then make sure they can have fun in the garden this summer too by including entertainment structures for them. This could be slides, monkey bars, sandpits, paddling pools, climbing frames – you get the idea! Even if you just purchase some coloured chalk for them to draw on the pavement, they’ll have loads of fun!

What are you waiting for? Get your garden summer ready now!
